Game Workflow Timeline

Week 1: Project Ideation

Coming up with general concepts, choices of programs, mediums, etc; designed mostly by feel and images, some mental and some sketched out. Ultimately decided on a game after considering an animated feature.

Week 2: Brainstorming

Still coming up with general concepts, honing in on central ideas, gameplay elements, player freedoms and limitations, and overall aesthetics. Have developed a ROUGH story outline, as well as more concrete shot ideas. Programs have been decided on as well.

Week 3: RE A  L  L  Y   S CA  T  T  ER E D

Played around with many of the programs, and have decided to make the game a MYST-like point and click game, so camera movements are fixed. I'm not sure if this will be easier or harder than making the ship free to roam about, but this limitation can make each shot much more cinematic. Also, I feel like it cuts down on many extraneous elements that FPS players have come to expect from their actually polished games. This is my first Unity-based game ever, and my first introduction to C#, soooo I'm going to make this simple.

I have also made little music synthy blips that I may use for the soundtrack / ambiance. Here are some possible sounds i may throw in there
making a space game and i have no idea what im doing
tasty bloops
interlude thing??

I also have some other songs but I may use them for another game project down the line, all in all the soundtrack is most definitely unfinished.

I've located some handy tutorials on how to make a MYST-like game in Unity, ie uses 3D modeled assets yet the player positions are fixed. Hopefully I can create interacting objects with relative ease. Still very unsure about Unity, and programming as a whole! Going to begin the series today, as well as some basic coding introductions.

Prototypes here we come.

Week 4: Early Prototyping, Game Art

The spaceship layout will hopefully be finalized and turned into a 3D model. Tilesets and a general color scheme will be made as well. I imagine a good chunk of the time spent this week will be transferring all of this into the Unity engine.

More pixel game art will be made as well, such as monitor graphics, and glitches. I'll layout the larger images for later as well.

At the same time, I'll be doing rough point-and-click prototypes with very simple stages in Unity, just so I can get a feel of how the core mechanics will play out without the clutter of extra details.

Week 5: More Prototypes more game art yaddayadda

EVERYTHING, MUSIC INCLUDED

Week 6: Finalize Assets and 3D Space

Finish up game art. Make sure it all imports into Unity nice and easy.

Set up player paths, shots, etc. Figure out how to make an interactive console separate windowwww thing (memory bank)

Week 7: Probably coding shit and testing???

Now that all assets are in place, make it into a game. Maybe add save elements, not really sure about that yet.

Week 8: More testing ??

Makin it GOOD; menu screen??

Week 9: Finalize

Make a little logo, polish polish

Week 10: DONE
